Science Songs
A community arts & education project exploring the science of life and evolution
The Lifetime Project was created by composer/songwriter David Haines as a way of exploring the science of life and evolution. The original project, based in and around David's home town of Teignmouth in Devon, England, involved over 500 children from 13 schools, 50 members of a specially-formed community choir, and more than 2000 people as audience members and workshop participants.
The project included:
· commissioning a new Science Oratorio comprising 17 songs
· the collaborative creation of 10 additional new songs
· a dozen concerts in almost as many different venues
· two public lectures
· two dozen songwriting workshops
· six artists' workshops
· dozens of new art works
· competitions and questionnaires
· concert DVDs
· a dedicated web-site

"A unique attempt through song and other expressive arts to inform and excite its participants and audiences about the splendour and almost infinite variety of the science of life and evolution."

It was, for me, the most moving school event I have ever been involved with in over 25 years of teaching. I do hope the music you have created goes on to receive the wider recognition that it deserves.
