Music Theatre

DAVID HAINES (composer / lyricist / librettist) ROBERT COOVER (original book)

Written: 1982

Type of Show: For all ages

Duration: 35-40 mins.

Cast: 3 men, 2 women plus a chorus.

Musicians: Originally performed with band of 10 players, or with accompaniment on mini-disk.

Musical Style: Contemporary chamber opera with strong jazz and pop influences.

Productions: Banff School of Fine Arts 1982. Springtide Music Theatre 1998

Summary of Story: As Paul's life ebbs away a group of bizarrely ordinary people gather and exploit his predicament. The Trucker who ran him over appeals for clemency, the Policeman fumbles and dithers, the bag lady fantasises about her affair with the dying man, and the Doctor seems intent on finishing him off. The show is a surreal and dark comedy.

Additional Information: David Haines plans to write a companion piece so that the two may be presented as a double bill, probably basing the new work on another story by the same author.

Material available: Full Script / Mini-disk/ Tape / Synopsis / Vocal Score
