DAVID HAINES (composer / lyricist / librettist)

Written: 1988

Type of Show: For all ages

Duration: 70 mins

Cast: Minimum about 12 (all children with at least 2 girls)

Musicians: Piano or keyboard or with recorded accompaniment. Can be expanded.

Musical Style: Wide-ranging including simple ballads, 'serious' contemporary styles, jazz and pop influences.

Summary of Story: Through glimpses into the lives of people involved in the events of 1587/88, Armadadrama tells with humour and irony the story of the Spanish Armada and its defeat through bad management, disease, superstition and poor weather. We meet the leaders of both countries as well as ordinary people caught up in events beyond their control.

Additional Information: Fits well with UK National Curriculum coverage of The Tudors. The songs have been used separately to complement class work.

Material available: Full Script / Mini-disk Tape / Synopsis / Vocal Score
